Wedding Planner Destin FL, Amanda Peterson

Destin FL Wedding Planner, Amanda Peterson

How long have your been doing this and how did you become a wedding planner?

I've been planning events since 1994, but in 2008 I moved back to Florida to escape the road warrior lifestyle and be closer to my family. Although my career as an event planner began with political conferences and fundraisers, my recent move brought a fresh opportunity to change directions and become a wedding planner in Destin, FL.

I really wanted to be involved with events that truly touched people and were not forgotten as soon as they were over. For years I'd been helping my friends and family plan their own weddings and, one day, it just clicked! I decided to share my talents and event planning experience with other ladies to help them have their own dream wedding and I've been planning fabulous destination wedding experiences in the Destin, FL Gulf Coast region ever since!

I knew planning weddings was right for me when I saw my first bride and groom beam at each other when they were announced husband and wife. The moment they gave me a huge hug after the recessional, I was hooked! At first, I used to cry at weddings because I was so happy that the couple found love with each other, but now I cry because these couples have touched my heart and they allowed me into their lives to help on their wedding day.

As for life before weddings, well I've been very blessed to have a wonderful event planning career and I'm lucky that I get to translate all the skills I've learned over the years to the wedding industry. Some of the groups that I've had the pleasure to serve include the Christian Coalition, NASA and the Air Force Association. While working in DC I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work on the White House Correspondents Dinner and to be in charge of the McLaughlin Brunch the day after. I've been fortunate enough to work with several Heads of State, Cabinet members, Members of Congress, Astronauts and other dignitaries as well. Today, I get to continue my dream life as an event planner working exclusively with wonderful destination brides and grooms.

We love your wedding planning services and portfolio, but can you tell me what really sets you apart from all the other wedding planners out there?

As you've probably figured out, my specialty is planning a one-of-a-kind destination wedding experience in the Gulf Coast region of Florida, including Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, Seagrove Beach and even out to Pensacola. Unfortunately, the challenge that most brides and grooms have in this area is that it is flooded with cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all wedding packages. A couple that wants a custom destination experience will struggle to find a wedding planner in the Destin FL area that can give them personal attention and customization they're looking for.

What makes me different from other planners in my area is that this is my passion! My core focus in serving destination brides and grooms is creating a fully custom wedding experience that reflects their unique personality and style from start to finish. What this means is that my team and I will not try to box you into a pre-defined package or give you a wedding that's been done a hundred times over. Your event will be completely original and custom designed just for you. We'll work with your budget and your vision to create the wedding you've always dreamed of.

This all sounds so wonderful. But, it also seems expensive. Are we going to be able to afford all this?

Planning a wedding is a full time job and, if you have an active career and social life, it may be difficult or near impossible to make time for it all. I hear repeatedly from my brides that if it wasn’t for me they would have gone to Vegas instead and abandoned the wedding they really wanted (which was the one I gave them.)

The question you need to ask yourself is whether you have the time to do it all yourself. If you have your heart set on your dream destination wedding in the Destin FL Gulf Coast region and you want everything to go off without a hitch, then ask yourself whether you can afford not to have the extra help.

Many brides have no idea how much work is actually involved in planning a wedding...especially from a distance...until they're in the thick of it. Rather than waste all the months leading up to your wedding stressing, feeling overwhelmed and worrying about every tiny little detail, wouldn't you prefer to enjoy your engagement?

When you have me as your Destin FL wedding planner, you'll get back your investment and more. Between the time you'll spare avoiding all the costly mistakes new brides fall victim to and the budget savings you'll enjoy with my helpful tips for stretching your funds and negotiating with vendors, you'll wind up ahead.

What types of brides do you work best with?

Typically, my brides are busy in their careers, school or family obligations and have information overload. Most just do not have the time, contacts or even desire to find everything they need or want. Some are clear about the kind of wedding they want to have, others are not. Either way, they're looking to me to fill in the gaps and make the entire process smooth and effortless for them.

For those that are simply short on time and connections, I help them pool together all the resources that are the best fit for their style and personality. For those that aren't sure what kind of wedding they want to have, I work with them to get their creative juices flowing to create a vision they can get excited about.

What type of couples might not be a good fit for your wedding planning services?

I want to help busy, career-drive and family-oriented brides who want a personalized destination wedding experience, but don't have the time to make it all come together. I find that most of my brides want someone they can trust to take care of the details so they can enjoy the experience. If that doesn't sound like you, we might not be a good match.

At NASA, I was known as the problem-solver. Even if it seemed impossible, I always found a solution (remind me to tell you about unveiling the first pictures of Mars). Because of this, I work well with brides who trust me to make the best of a sticky situation using whatever resources we have available in a pinch. Brides who aren't flexible enough to allow for this type of problem solving may struggle to benefit from my services.

Will I lose control of my own wedding if you’re planning it for me?

Of course not, that would be the opposite of what we're trying to accomplish. It’s your wedding and our job is to make sure it's exactly the way you've always envisioned it to be. In fact, letting your YOUniqueness shine is exactly what makes us different! (Any other way takes all the fun out...for us and for you!)

As I mentioned earlier, unlike other cookie-cutter companies, we won't box you into a limited selection or try to limit you. Our specialty is giving you a totally custom wedding that is authentic to you and your personality. That means, you'll always be in control.

You set the tone, you create the vision, you make the choices. My team and I are here to help you make it all come together!

Will you work with the vendors I have already found or people I really want to work with?

Of course! I love meeting new vendors and am thrilled to work with the people you have already chosen.

Are you certified as a Wedding Planner?

Yes. When I decided to devote my time to planning weddings, I earned the Professional Bridal Consultant (PBC) designation from the most prestigious association - the Association of Bridal Consultants. Then, with my high marks I became a “distinguished graduate”. I believe in the importance of professional associations so much so, I accepted the role as co-director for the local networking group here in the Destin area a few years ago and now, I am the lead co-director responsible for the territory between Mobile, AL and Tallahassee, FL.

ABC is the oldest and largest group of wedding professionals in the world and offers the most detailed and comprehensive training in the industry. Also, all of the ABC members agree to uphold the ABC Code of Ethics.

Association of Bridal Consultants Code of Ethics:
  • Represent each client fairly and honestly, providing all agreed to services in a timely and cost efficient manner
  • Establish reasonable and proper fees for services and provide written estimates to each client
  • Use honest, factual advertising
  • Deal with employees and clients fairly, in an unbiased manner
  • Disclose to clients any payments received from suppliers
  • Operate an establishment that is a credit to the community

Do you take credit cards and can we have a payment plan?

Yes – We accept Visa and MasterCard and have payment programs to fit into your lifestyle and needs.

Do you have liability insurance?

Of course! We have never needed it, but we want to make sure everything is covered, just in case. By the way, if you are considering Destin wedding planners that do not carry liability insurance - RUN, don't walk in the opposite direction! It's for your own protection.

Do you take more than one wedding per day?

I personally do not and I do all the Full Planning packages, so you will have my 100% attention on your wedding day.  However, I am blessed to have another AMAZING planner, Anna McCormick, and she handles all of our Month-Of packages, unless I am available and then I will manage your day.

This sounds like everything we’ve been looking for. What happens next to start the wedding planning process?
